YRV 242 (original YAF 303J) - Bedford VAL 70 with Plaxton Bodywork
This Bedford was new to Stonerman, Nanpean in 1971.
In 1980's the coach was converted to transport Gaymers Brewers dray and team of horses to county shows.
The last reported owner was Caswell Cox, Littlehampton. It was reported that YRV 242 was to be used as Motorcycle transporter.
3rd December 2007, John Wakefield reported on the "bedford_vehicles" yahoo group that the vehicle had been dumped in a lay-by on A280 near Littlehampton, Sussex. The vehicle was parked with no tyre on the front near axle, and a local authority notice was placed on the vehicle requesting for the vehicle to be removed.
The following day (4th Dec 2007) it was reported that the vehicle had been impounded at Chichester, and there was a £1400 release fee.
With hopes of a preservationist or someone to save this vehicle, there was a final report on 9th December 2007 saying that Richard Webb had saved YRV 242, and collected the vehicle on 8th December 2007. If YRV 242 was not saved it was planned to be crushed on 11th December 2007.
The picture above is by John C Thompson of YRV 242 when registered YAF 303J and was taken on 13th September 1987 at Science Museum outpost, Wroughton
